If you’ve seen The Office episode involving Jello (you know the one), this will be funny. If you haven’t, you really should watch more of The Office. Suffice it to say a certain bottle of hand lotion I keep at work “somehow” ended up in a big jar of Jello.

One of my taboos is writing about my work. It’s like posting on the Internet about politics or religion: you never know when your words will come back to haunt you!

But this is just too cool to not share: Banner Bank was featured today on the CBS Early Show. It’s a really positive look at what we’re doing right now with TARP funds. Make sure to check out both the article as well as the original video clip.

One of these days I’ll write about the tech stuff I do at work. It’s not a secret of any sort really (we use primarily off the shelf Microsoft tech with some light integration from another vendor). I just haven’t really felt like up until very recently I could really do an explanation/dissection of it justice.

I officially rejoined the work-force today. It was pretty hard making it through two meetings and all my regular work on just 3ish hours of sleep. But I survived worse for four years of college so I figure I can handle this for awhile.

Taking sleep deprivation out of the equation it was good to be back at work. After a couple of weeks off I’d begun to miss it (and was getting irritated trying to keep abreast of projects via periodic email checks).

Once the lady returns to work in a couple months I’ll take a couple more weeks off to help with that transition and can experience for myself what she’s going through right now. Thankfully Vicki’s around and my mom is going to be joining us soon to help out. And the 46 inch flat panel LCD TV arriving next week is giving me something to look forward to!

So I’ve been performing experiments on my coworkers. The only reading material in our break room is tabloid trash. I’ve started to retaliate by bringing in US News & World Report, Wired and Cat Fancier. In the name of science I’ve been monitoring what gets read and what gets ignored. After several weeks, the evidence is clear: given a choice, nobody actually reads meaningful articles. All that gets read is celebrity gossip.

Humanity as a species is doomed.

You know you’ve had a bad day when you get home and it takes over 3 hours to unwind. So far I’ve played an hour of Final Fantasy IV (while petting the cat), about an hour of Quake Wars, and ate a delicious dinner with the wife. Still no dice. There’s nothing fun about cleaning up a mess on a tight deadline.

Paradoxically, there are things about the crunch-time grind that I like. There’s something addicting about focusing all of your energy on a problem. Being allowed to brush off the normal daily task intrusions and just coding. Just my brain, the machine, and a big intractable problem.

One way or another vacation is coming up soon. Just need to survive a couple weeks more!

Cube, sweet Cube

Cube, sweet Cube

So I’ve been busy lately. Got some big work projects keeping me on my toes and a big to-do list when I get home.

Life twitters:

  • Painted a house
  • Built a PC
  • Ripped out two hot tub pumps (it’s getting close!)
  • Re-arranged our nursery (again)
  • Sold some stuff on eBay
  • Played some TF2 and ETQW

Etc.

Not terribly exciting, but it’s a life!

And a parking spot, and a jacket, and a gift certificate, and jellybeans, and an Etch-a-Sketch!

Life is good.

Since Saturday night I have been moving the company that employs me to our new facility (we’re merging with this company). My role has been to tear down our stuff, assist in transporting it to new site, and setting up our infrastructure at the new site. It’s gone well and everything appears to be going smoothly with the merger.

On Thursday, I begin the process of moving into my new house. When this is all said and done I’m not going to ever move again. Ever.
